12 May 2011:

Helping families survive the loss of a baby: Mildura Training, 25 and 26 June.

A local support group is emerging in Mildura, providing much needed peer-support for people who have suffered the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death. Due to the new local support group developing, the SANDS (Vic) Training Subcommittee will be visiting Mildura to train parent-supporters to provide telephone and group support. Training will take place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June and is open to people who have experienced the loss of a baby at least 12 months ago and who share a desire to volunteer to help others and be part of a dynamic organisation.

4 May 2011: In memory of babies who left this life too soon

On Sunday 15 May 2011, SANDS Victoria will hold its non-denominational annual memorial service in Melbourne.  SANDS is a non-profit support organisation comprised of parents who’ve experienced the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or shortly after birth.

Held at 1.45pm at the Marwal Centre, 9 Marwal Avenue North Balwyn, the service provides an opportunity for those who’ve experienced such a loss to honour the memory of their baby - and is often attended by friends and family in support.

14 April 2011: Recognising and destigmatising stillbirth.

SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support), welcomes today’s launch of The Lancet's Stillbirth Series – a series of articles from the world-leading medical journal which will help place the issues surrounding stillbirth on the international public agenda.

The series has been published in partnership with the International Stillbirth Alliance, of which SANDS is a member organisation. SANDS is a non-profit support group founded around thirty years ago, comprised of parents who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or shortly after birth. Recommended by many maternity hospitals in Tasmania and Victoria, SANDS offers bereaved parents much needed peer-to-peer phone support from psychologist-trained volunteers who have all experienced a similar loss (national number: 13 000 SANDS, or 13 000 72637).
