 VOLUNTEERING FOR SANDS

There are a number of ways you can help SANDS.

Becoming a parent supporter
Do you have an empathetic ear and a desire to help others? You need to attend a weekend training session and then possibly move on to become a supporter for bereaved parents who need to speak to someone who understands. This can be very rewarding as you can make a real difference in someone’s life.

Joining the Committee of Management
SANDS (Vic) is a committee based organisation and we always need fresh
faces at the table to keep SANDS moving forward. If you have skills in the areas of finance, marketing, administration, fundraising or technology, we would love to have you on the Committee. Many hands make light work.

Joining a Sub-Committee
If you have some time to spare but are not able to commit to an on-going role, why not join a sub-committee? You can be involved in the organisation of an event such as the annual Memorial Service, or a fundraising event, or a special event such as a birthday celebration. We have projects coming up which require particular skills, and maybe you have the ones needed for a particular sub-committee.

Talking to medical professionals and media
As part of our education of health professionals, we often have parents join one of staff members at these sessions. The feedback from this format has been very positive, as the medical staff value the information from a parent who has experienced the death of a baby. We also, from time to time, require people to be interviewed by the media when they are doing stories relating to miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

General office work
Sometimes we need volunteers when we have tasks such as mail outs, stocktaking, and various other office duties. This ensures staff can continue with the day-to day running of the office.

If you are able to help in any of these areas, or you have any other skills we have not already mentioned, please contact the SANDS (Vic) office via phone (03) 9899 0217 or email info@sandsvic.org.au
